A new hobby

So, I have decided that I need a hobby. I don't do much when I'm bored... cause most everything to do takes money... and if you're like me, you don't have much of that to blow.
So, after considering what I enjoyed and what I was good at and what I could do for next to (if not absolutely) nothing, I decided that I want to try my hand at photography again. I took the photography classes in High School and my photography teacher actually gave me one of his jobs he'd been hired to do while I was in his classes... and I LOVED it!!!
So these are the first of (hopefully) many pictures that I will get to take!!! For a first try at formal photos, I don't think they're half bad, but I'd love to know what everyone else thinks. Feel free to drop me a line and give me your honest opinions! ^_^ (cause if I suck, I'd like to know so I'm not just wasting my time.)
The details of these photos are: They were taken on August 9, 2008 at our apartment in Spanish Fork (yes, this is just our front yard! ^_^) at roughly 7pm. It was an overcast and sort of windy day. The subject is Lana Jean... one of my BFF's.... and a childhood friend (practically another sister!)

Yes, you're doing a wonderful job.
Two things I would suggest (one that is always free):
1 - Framing. Lose the headroom, and don't cut people off at joints (knees, elbows, necks, waists, ankles, etc.).
Fortunately digital pictures can be cropped to include/exclude the extras.
2 - Lighting. You did great with what you had, but under most circumstances you want to avoid mixing indoor and outdoor lighting. You also want to avoid harsh light/shadow combos (sunlight splashing through trees, for example).

You definitely have talent and a lot of promise.

Sorry, one more thing...

For the sake of the web page loading faster, after you crop, resize the image to 500 pixels or less.
It still shows up the same size on your page, but because it's smaller in megabits you can fit a lot more.

I know that's not really an issue on blogger.com, but people will notice the difference in how fast it loads.

A note to readers

I haven't been updating as often as I'd like to be. I find that I just don't take the time to do it.
I will try to be better but no guarantees.
Keep watching for fun photos and videos (and if I can't post videos here, links to them).
We love sharing our lives with you!
